IDF M113 APC with Gunshields
Images reproduced with permission of Moustafa Assad.
The IDF uses an "ACAV" style of Cupola and gun shields but more sophisticated that the US Army's version of the Vietnam War. The set consists of a two piece arrangement providing protection from the sides for the commander with the hatch providing protection from the rear. The commander's weapon does not have a gun shield.
The one piece armour shield has two boxes of bullet proof glass and is mounted one set on each side of the rear hatch. These shields can be hinged forward to the outside of the vehicle.
The last image shows that these "ACAV" system was fitted to standard M113 APCs as well as the later versions fitted with external fuel tanks and presumably upgraded to M113A3 standards.
