Israeli Sherman Tracing the history of the Sherman tank
in Israeli service.
By Thomas Gannon
Published by Darlington Publications
This hard cover book has 235 number pages and has on
average
2 -3 photos per page.
Chapters cover the basic Sherman variants and points of identification. This
is followed by the first Israeli Shermans - Meir and Tamar, the M50/51 series, emplaced
Sherman tanks and then goes on to chapters on self propelled guns, recovery vehicles,
specialist Shermans and where they are now (Chile and Uganda). There are 2
appendices
one on US Sherman ID points and another on Israeli Shermans. A third appendix covers the
comparison between a 60mm hypervelocity round and a 105mm and 155mm gun. there is
also an index.
The book is illustrated by many photos from official sources showing the tanks in service. this is supported by many close ups in museums and memorials.
Tom does not profess to know everything about Shermans or Israeli Shermans. He does however impart much of his knowledge on the subject in a very readable way.
Verdict: the book is worth getting and will be a very worthwhile source for this subject.
I got my copy direct from Darlington but I am sure that other bookshops will have it as well.
