South Lebanese Army ex IDF half Track
Moustafa Assad
This is an interesting vehicle in use by the South Lebanese Army. The photos were provided by Moustafa Assad of Lebanon.
The vehicle consists of a diesel engined IDF M3 half track that has been modified by the addition of a roof over the rear troop compartment. Set into this roof is an M113 cupola and Air Cavalry (ACAV) commander's kit, with .50 calibre machine gun.
Moustaffa has advised that this vehicle has a standard rear of an M3 half track. I would have assumed that if the M113 commanders cupola was added the rear troop hatch may also have been added but this is not the case. The roof is raised over the troop compartment but tapers down to the front of the visor.
The vehicle has all the standard fitments of a diesel engined half track including:
An interesting and unusual vehicle, that proves some old vehicles just keep going on and on. In the background can be seen another half track with communications cabin in the rear crew compartment.
Note the colour and rust.

Note that this SLA half track has some other modifications. It has the later glass block for the driver, a partial roof and standard diesel engine modifications |
